Enerboss Air Handler

An innovative Approach to home comfort...

The first things you will notice about the Nu-Air Integrated HRV/Air Handler is the filtered, fresh air and even heat to every room in the house. It will not be until the end of the month when you notice the high-energy efficiency and the electricity-saving ECM motors. You may never notice the advanced control design which represents a new generation in home comfort systems.

About The System

The Enerboss is an advanced COMBO system Air Handler with integrated Heat Recovery Ventilator. When coupled to a residential boiler, domestic hot water heater or central boiler (multi-unit buildings), the Enerboss provides space heating and ventilation to the building. Order with the optional evaporator coil (not shown) and couple to a compressor (split system) to meet cooling loads. A General Electric ½ hp electrically commutated direct drive motor handles circulation and ventilation. The energy-efficient blower is designed to provide continuous ventilation at 65 cfm (30 l/s) and circulating air at 350 cfm (165 l/s). The same blower also provides fresh air to the heat recovery ventilation system. A separate blower provides HRV exhaust. The system is designed for ventilation and air collection from "wet rooms".

The Enerboss features a compact design with simplified duct, water and electrical connections. Air filtration is an important part of the Enerboss, with separate air filters for both circulating and ventilating air. Simple controls require only a fan coil thermostat with a fan switch and optional dehumidistat.

Features

  • Advanced hot water coil designed for maximum heat output and minimal water flow restriction.

  • ECM blower motor with constant CFM program provides continuous air circulation with low power draw.

  • Aluminum cross flow HRV core.

  • Independent HRV exhaust fan for dedicated wet room, contaminated air collection without recirculation or short-circuiting.

  • A unique exhaust air preheat frost prevention strategy delivers warmer ventilation air to the space and avoids recirculation of stale air. Using heated water rather than heated air, this strategy returns water to a heat generator at lower temperatures for potential efficiency improvements and does not detract from the available space heating output.

  • Compact, space saving design.

  • Large heat recovery core.

Integration

Use the home’s hot water heater for an advanced COMBO system with integrated HRV.

For installers, it means easier and faster installation because everything is designed to work together: callbacks are reduced, controls are integrated and there is only one product to order. An added convenience for installers is the built-in pump and valves.

For builders, it reduces multiple units to one compact unit. That means more usable floor space-always a plus, especially for multi-family dwellings, town houses, and for those who want some extra space.

For homeowners, it means lower energy bills, more space for living and total home comfort.

About the Manufacturer

Nu-Air Ventilation Systems Inc., based in Windsor, Nova Scotia and designer of the system, has been manufacturing HRV’s for residential and light commercial use since 1992. Nu-Air’s line of products includes ventilation systems ranging from 85 cfm to 8000 cfm capacity.

About eKOCOMFORT

Combining space heating, hot water and continuous ventilation in an energy-efficient integrated system,

eKOCOMFORT™  systems are the next step in home comfort.  eKOCOMFORT™  is not a single product, but rather a trademark for a family of products designed by a highly skilled, collaborative team of industry manufacturers, trade associations, utilities and the Government of Canada. Nu-Air is one of six manufacturing groups who have partnered with the Government of Canada through the Climate Change Action Fund to develop products that meet stringent design, testing and performance standards.

Water Heater Selection:

The Effective Water Heater Output (EWHO) must be a minimum of 58 000 btu/hr for space heating (20% greater than the Enerboss' output).  To determine the EWHO;
EWHO = (Burner Input) * (Recovery Efficiency)

Therefore the Burner's input must be:
Burner Input = (48,000 * 1.2) / (Recovery Efficiency)

The water heater's storage capacity and first hour rating are sized for domestic hot water demand using conventional plumbing system sizing practices.  The Heating Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Institute (HRAI) suggests the following method.
